Babblus are the most wonderous and magnificent birds of Monville. Babblus find their food by singing a hypnotic song that forces the listener to come closer. A word of caution, once you hear the Babblus song, its impossible to escape.

They hatch out of pink eggs that are covered with a purple spiral, that can have a hypnotic effect on someone looking at it for a long time. Scientists argue that it is an evolutionary adaptiation to distract predators from the thoughts of harming or eating an egg. Adult babblus use hypnosis to find food: their melodic song lures listeners to come close. Once you fall under the spell of the Babblus song, escape is impossible. Babblus are known as sirens of Monville. Their song attracts butterfiles, as well as travelling flowers (parachuting and tumbling). Adult babblus are over 5 feet tall, but approximately a foot of their height is their pink crest. The crest stands up straight when a Babblu is startled or agitated, and titled to the side when the Babblu is relaxed. Babblu plumage is usually a mixture of sunset colors: pink and lilac, and older Babblus sometimes have a distinctive red blaze on the insides of their wings.

Babbloos are very vain, and like reflective surfaces, like calm lakes and even rain puddles. That sometimes proves to be their weakness, as they can stare at their own reflection for hours, quietly cooing at their own image, not aware of enemies or predators. Babbloos are the only creatures that have "makeup"--they make eyeshadow from the blue wing dust of butterflies they lure with their songs and rouge from red riverbank clay. They also wear jewelry--beak decorations made from red berries and they decorate their claws with petals of bluebells. Also they can relax the muscles of their wings in a way that makes the wings look like a long cape.

They make for sweet, if somewhat self-involved pets, but in order to keep them happy you need to provide them with everything that comprises their complicated, delicate habitat. Only a few places in nature have the flora and fauna necessary for Babblus to maintain their lifestyle, and the old superstition that to see a Babblu away from her nest brings luck is rooted in the fact that it is very rare to see a Babblu outside of her natural environment. So be prepared to keep them stocked with lots of mirrors and glittery, colorful toys they can use to make themselves even more beautiful.
