SilverWolf

It is hard to separate science from the myth when it comes to silverwolfs. They are exteremely rare, and their whole existence is shrowded in mysetery. Scientsits blieve that they originated in the Red Moon Caves district of the Mysterious Woods, although there have been sightings of them around the abandoned Silver Ore Mines in the Northwest region for centruries (it is possible that the wolves around the mines are regular gray wolves, whose fur seems to glow from the remaining silver dust floating in the air in that area). Several expeditions to study Silverwolves went missing in the Mysterious Woods, and no new attempts have been made in almost two decades, since a curious and disturbing audio log of the Wolf Totem Guild Expedition was found in a ravine on the outskirts of the Silverwolf Territory. The log ended abruptly; it is concluded that the research party was attacked and dragged away into the woods before they had a chance to broach the perimiter.

Here is what IS known about silverwolves:

They are descended from pterodactyls, and while they are fully-formed primates, they have skin membranes between their toes that can aid them in gliding short distances. They also grow thick yellow claws, which aid them in tree climbing, and make them very versatile in moving through the forest in every direction.

Because of their distant avian-reptilian ancestry, they still hatch from eggs. Their eggs are striped for the purpopses of mimicry, since they tend to hatch in groves of hundred-year striped birches. As they develop from silvercubs into silverwolves, they chew on birch and oak bark while their teeth come in, and then are taught by their parents to hunt small rodents, and to avod hunters themselves. Silverwolf weight and size increase with higher latitudes. Their height reaches 40 inches at the shoulder, and their weight can range anywhere betwen 50 and 120 lbs. Silverwolf fur is considered priceless, since the species is very close to extinction, and the fur is very rare. Ironically, the black market price on silverwolf fur hoods ensures that these rare creatures are mercilessly hunted for gain, instead of being protected.

As a result of being a threatened species, Silverwolfs have a keen sense of danger, and a larger-than-average paranoia. They have been known to turn on their owners when they feel threatened. An old legend said that once a Silverwolf is returned to the place where it was born, you will be given a VERY rare gift, originating from the unexplored Red Moon Caves. No one in living memory has performed this task, though.
